The Mission of Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada is to help bring people to faith in Jesus Christ by making the Word of God available to those who do not yet have it in the language of their hearts. Revised April 2010

Commitment to Scripture Accessibility

Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada (LBTC) believes that no language or cultural barrier should prevent people from having access to God's Word. That is why LBTC works with Lutheran church bodies and Bible translation organizations worldwide-- so that every person has the opportunity to read, hear and understand God's Good News in the language of their hearts.

The Need for Bible Translation is Great

Translation of the Bible into world languages is far from complete. In the world today there are over 6,800 languages. Over 4,400 or 66%, still have no portion of Scripture.

One way to help you might embrace the extent and need for Bible translation is by examining the statistics.

How is LBTC Involved

Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada conducts linguistic research; translates the Bible; facilitates literacy; promotes Scripture use; trains indigenous people; cooperates with local governments, educators, national church leaders and local communities; and involves Lutherans in Canada in building awareness through recruitment and by seeking partnerships for prayer, financial support and encouragement.

Although this volume of work may seem insurmountable, LBT and Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada (LBTC) - with God’s guiding hand and the prayers and generous gifts of its faithful supporters - has completed 31 New Testaments enabling over 7 million people to now read the message of Jesus Christ’s salvation in their first language.

Currently, Lutheran Bible Translators has 26 Bible translation programs, 59 Scripture engagement and related programs and 4 language development programs in progress. We further rejoice that several Canadians are examining God’s plan for them as they consider joining LBTC as Bible translators, literacy teachers and ethnomusicologists. Others, known only to God at this time, await our timely encouragement.
