Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada - Bringing people to faith in Jesus Christ through Bible translation and literacy.

From the Home page, David tells about his trip

...possible translation work with a Lutheran Church in Cote d’Ivoire.

My first stop was Chambery in the French Alps.  There I spent a few days with Kory and Cara Fay and their family. Kory and Cara went to France last August for about 15 months of French language training. We spent many hours discussing their general well-being, their French study and their future assignment in Cameroon. The school they attend is great. They are making very good progress and should be ready to begin a project in Cameroon later this year. In May, Kory will travel to Cameroon with me so we can visit the village

where the Lutheran Church would like them to locate and make as many preparations for their arrival as possible.

On the weekend, I got a little R&R. I went back to the Paris area and spent the weekend with some old friends from our Togo days. I enjoyed some wonderful French hospitality and got to worship in a Lutheran Church. They even had a potluck that day after service that lasted till evening. Did you know that you can take wine to potlucks in France?

The second part of the journey took me to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. (You have to go through Paris anyway to get to Abidjan so this was a very economical trip.) feb 10 0021There I visited Aubert Kpengapse and his family.  Aubert is from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cameroon. He is in the third year of a four year Masters of Theology program with a major in Translation and should graduate in July 2011. LBT partners with the ELCC and provides an international scholarship for Aubert’s studies. I was very impressed with Aubert and his family. They are warm, humble people. Both he and his wife are well educated. The professors regard him highly and told me that he is doing well in his classes. His wife also takes classes daily in a Women’s Academy. Aubert expects to go back to his town of Poli and translate the Old Testament into his Dowayo language.
While in Abidjan, I took the opportunity to meet with Vicar Marc Guehi Guehi, president of the Lutheran Church in Africa—Ivory Coast Synod (ELA-SCI), to discuss possible translation needs. Marc is Ivorian and a former student of mine at the Lutheran Centre for Theological Study in northern Togo where I served many years ago. The church does have some need for translation and Scripture engagement which we will investigate further. Perhaps this will open up a new work for LBTC.

Thank you for your continued interest in and support of this ministry! We must get God’s Word out in the languages of the world’s peoples so that all may come to the knowledge of the truth.
